The creative industry is at a crossroads. While technology has democratised creativity, enabling anyone with a smartphone to become a "creator," the gap between education and industry remains a significant barrier.
Teachers, who play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of talent, often lack the resources and real-world insights to inspire students about the vast opportunities in the creative sector.
At the same time, many young people aren’t aware of the career opportunities in the creative industry and so this is what the Creative Careers Fair hosted at the UK Creative Festival aims to resolve.
This year, to effect higher impact the UK Creative Festival has partnered with the Design & Technology Association that aims to bridge this gap and inspire the next generation of creative talent.
Through the Blueprint 1000 Teachers in Residency Programme, we’re inviting six creative agencies, brands, or creative organisations to open their doors and host a pair of teachers for five days in Summer 2025.
This is a unique opportunity to showcase the positive, dynamic, and inspiring environments that the creative industry has to offer, along with the career pathways and ultimately to help shape the future of creativity.

The Challenge: Disconnection Between Education and Industry
In the forthcoming Golden Nugget articles, designer Nicki Kythreotis questions why future generations would want to work in the creative industry. Her concerns are valid: burnout, lack of diversity, and the pressure to constantly innovate can make the industry feel overwhelming. But her article also highlights a deeper issue—the disconnect between education and the real-world creative workplace.
Many students are unaware of the breadth of roles available in the creative sector, from graphic design and copywriting to UX design, strategy, and production. Teachers, too, often lack the resources or industry exposure to effectively guide students toward these careers. This is where the Teachers in Residency Programme comes in.
The Solution: Teachers in Residency Programme
The Blueprint 1000 Teachers in Residency Programme is a groundbreaking initiative designed to bring teachers into the heart of the creative industry. For five days, participating teachers will immerse themselves in your organisation, observing how different departments operate, learning about the skills required for various roles, and gaining firsthand insights into the creative process.
The goal? To equip teachers with the knowledge and inspiration they need to bring real-world relevance into the classroom. By sharing their experiences with students, these teachers can help young people see the creative industry as a viable, exciting, and rewarding career path.
Why Your Organisation Should Get Involved
This is more than just a corporate social responsibility initiative—it’s an opportunity to shape the future of the creative industry. Here’s what your organisation will gain by participating:
Inspire the Next Generation: By opening your doors to teachers, you’ll play a direct role in inspiring young people to pursue careers in the creative sector.
Strengthen Industry-Education Links: Help bridge the gap between education and industry, ensuring that the next generation of talent is equipped with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive.
Boost Your Brand: Position your organisation as a leader in corporate social responsibility and community engagement.
Fresh Perspectives: Teachers bring a unique perspective to your organisation, offering insights into how young people think and learn and vice versa, your culture, processes, insights will undoubtedly inspire teachers to take back what they learn from their time with you back into the classroom.
How It Works
We’re looking for six large creative agencies, brands, or organisations to host a pair of teachers each for five days in Summer 2025 or April ( Easter Holidays) 2026. Here’s what the programme involves:
Observation and Learning: Teachers will spend five days in your organisation, observing how different departments operate and learning about the skills required for various roles.
Knowledge Sharing: Teachers will take their experiences back to the classroom, using what they’ve learned to inspire and inform students.
Flexible Timing: Choose a timeframe that works for your organisation—either Summer (August) 2025 or April (Easter Holiday) 2026.
A Positive Future for Creativity
In another Golden Nugget article, legendary creative Graham Fink reminds us that creativity is not dead—it’s evolving. Technology has democratised the tools of creation, but the importance of ideas remains paramount. By participating in the Teachers in Residency Programme, your organisation can help ensure that the next generation of creatives is not only skilled but also inspired to think boldly and innovatively.
